First of the Month

Happy mailman-owner email day! He's the guy who just sends you a reminder, once a month, about your subscriptions. He'll even offer you some URLs if you'd like to unsubscribe or manage your subscription.

My UPS Melted Last Night: Geeze. If Monday was Mailman Day, then this was APC Week. Not only did I have to order replacement batteries for two SmartUPS 2200s at the office, but last night my friggin Back-UPS Office 350 melted. read more »

Hee. I’m glad my coworkers and I aren’t the only ones who say that once a month.

mailman-owner says hi to me about twelve times every first morning of the month. I can’t imagine what a real IT person’s email inbox looks like on the first.

””“I can’t imagine what a real IT person’s email inbox looks like on the first.”“”

Void of mailman-owner posts, if they choose to edit their subscription options to not send reminders :)

Yeah. Isn’t that annoying?!

I do the same thing every 1st of the month. Wake up, see all the mailman spam, then go in and wish everyone a happy mailman reminder day.

Talk about a stupid configuration default!

As I once wrote elsewhere:

Let’s hear it for pinch-punch-first-of-the-month, the grand old tradition where Mailman servers all over the world unite to utterly piss off their users in unison twelve times a year. “HELLO! WE’RE ALL TICKETY-BOO! HOW’RE YOU?”

I have never, ever understood the point of using my main notification system purely to notify me that I both have been and will continue to be receiving notifications in that notification system. AGAIN.

It’s really not that hard to overide the default upon signing up. Or any other time. You can do it, I know you can.

He’ll even send you your passwords in clear text, which the Mailman folks, without a hint of irony, call a “security feature”.

Hi Anil,

One of the nicer things with those monthly reminders is that it reminds you that you subscribed to the particular mailing lists at some time in the past, even if there is no traffic on the list.
