The weather is looking good (it's going to be roughly in the mid-60s and sunny) and the bases, balls, tacos and coffee are on their way to Palm Park. It's just one block east of the Austin Convention Center -- we'll see you there soon!
We're gearing up for KICK! in the morning, and it's worth getting there early -- we've had a huge response, and it's likely the goodies will go fast. For those that get there first, we'll have four kinds of breakfast tacos (everything from chorizo to a vegetarian option) and some real coffee from local Austin favorite Progress Coffee. First come, first-served!
News of KICK!'s return is spreading across the web, and in just a few days, we've seen some really enthusiastic responses.

I didn't think SXSW could get any better...but it did. Apparently Anil Dash has resurrected the kick-ball tourney he started back in 2002. What could be better than a group of geeks and bloggers playing kick-ball in a park?

We know what could make it better -- if you join us! We've even been thrilled to see the excited responses on Twitter to the announcement of KICK's return:

There are lots more shout-outs, but don't be shy -- if you're coming to the game, let your friends know, and post a link to the KICK! site on your blog or on Twitter.
Get ready, people -- KICK! is back. It's been a while since the last game, but all of you who remember years past know that you want to be there again this year. More details and excitement are still to come, right here. To keep up to date, you'll want to subscribe to the KICK! feed for the latest news.

If you're considering the free breakfast this morning at 11am, don't worry, you can still participate in KICK!

KICK! is in Palm Park, just two blocks away from Brush Square Park, where breakfast is being served. Feel free to grab a taco and some coffee first, and then mosey on over to Palm Park. We'll start a second game when breafast attendees arrive, as there's plenty of time before Jeffrey Zeldman's opening remarks at 2:00pm.

Of course, if you're hardcore and prefer kickball over sustainence, we'll have a first game for diehards starting at 10:30.

KICK! in the morning

Just one last reminder, KICK! is tomorrow morning at 10:30am. Make sure your alarm clock is set for the right time zone, and give yourself some time to amble over to Palm Park, which is right behind the Convention Center.

Thanks to the kind sponsorship of Six Apart (my employers, who make Movable Type, TypePad, and LiveJournal), we've got brand new balls and bases this year, and we'll also have some Movable Type logo wrenches that we'll be giving away to attendees. They make for cool keychains or makeshift bottle openers for your Shiner Bock.

An extra special thanks to George Kelly for his tremendous help in getting things ready for the game. If you find yourself stuck tomorrow or have any questions, please email or call me at +1 646 541 5843.

WAKA in the house

We've just gotten word that the World Adult Kickball Association will be represented at Saturday's game by Johnny LeHane, one of WAKA's founders. Johnny will be making information about WAKA available, including flyers and information cards.

If you want to brush up before the big game, you'll also want to check out the official rules. See you Saturday!

Mike's got a great post about what you need to know at SXSWi over on Cruftbox. He's only neglected to mention that you need to know when the kickball game is!

KICK's back for 2005!

Bigger and better than ever, KICK! will return for this year's 2005 SXSW Interactive festival. As always, we're an unofficial event, proud to take place before SXSWi gets into full swing, but not affiliated with the official schedule.

There's some exciting new surprises this year, but here's the basics so you can schedule time on your calendar:

  • When: Saturday, March 12 at 10:30am
  • Where: Palm Park, behind the Austin Convention Center
  • Who: Everyone's invited! It helps if you're a geek or a blogger
  • What: Kickball. A simple game, tons of fun, and nobody gets picked last
  • How: Just show up with some shoes you can run in, and we'l handle the rest

We're still in the process of getting the KICK site up to date, but the good news is: KICK! is back for 2004! The game will be held at Palm Park, the same location as last year, and will be on Saturday morning, from 11:30a to 1:30p, sandwiched between Kevin Werbach's presentation and the opening speech by Brenda Laurel.

As always, the game's free, anyone is welcome to attend (even if you don't want to play) and nobody will be the last person picked for their team. In the past few years, most attendees have said that KICK was a great way to start the SXSW weekend and meet the other attendees in a casual, fun environment. This year's game promises to be even better.
